"I Was There"
Ninety-Fourth of a series ...

A few columns ago I wrote an article about health. “Health is Wealth”. I wrote that I was just about to have my annual physical…. preventative medicine I call it….to find out if one has a physical problem it can be fixed. I breezed through the physical, waited patiently a few days for fifty blood and other lab reports and let a sigh of relief when they all came back NORMAL!!!!!

I only had one more test which is usually a snap. I had to check in with my new eye doctor…an ophthalmologist I had not visited before. My previous eye doc was a 30 year best friend (we vacationed together) but he retired. So…here I was with a new doc and A NEW MACHINE…which cost 80 grand…a machine that I call the green, red and black line machine (don’t know the actual name of it). Guess what??? Results from the machine stated that I had some nerve damage in the rear part of my eye. I had ZERO idea that I had an eye problem. I was amazed!!! My new eye doc recommended I see a doctor who specializes in neuro-ophthalmology….a world famous doctor…to help make a determination as to what has caused the nerve damage. To do this I was asked to take an MRI…..sounds simple, but wasn’t for me. I quickly found out that I am one of the 10 percent who become filled with claustrophobia when placed in that long tomb like thing. I tried it twice, and screamed to the attendant to “get me out of here” both times. He did, and gave me a regular cat scan that I handled fine. Yeah, a cat scan of the BRAIN (I was amazed, because I have been told by friends that I don’t have a brain in my head). I took the film back to the neuro doc who said my brain looked fine….I did not have a brain tumor (I would have panicked if I had known that was what he was looking for!!!!). He sent me back to the regular ophthalmologist who got the opinion of the neuro doc. The new doc told me the treatment is a drop of medicine in my left eye each day. That’s it??? That’s it!!!!

The point of all this is that it strengthens my argument about preventative medicine (brains or no brains). Thank goodness for the red, green and black line machine, and CAT scan technology to advise the doc’s as to what may or not be a problem in the future….so it can be fixed early in the game if necessary.

Health is INDEED wealth!!! To be in the broadcasting…or any business it is important to have your health to get maximum mental stimulation, so that one can do their business without worrying. Yep, I know, because I WAS THERE listening to both of these experts come up with the results I hoped for.

This column is a not the usual radio one….but I wrote it hoping you will join me in preventative medicine so that you have a long and fabulous career!!!! FORWARD!!!!
